Requirements
- ✓Minimum Requirements:
- ✓Grade 12 or equivalent
- ✓2 years’ experience within a SHEQ/ Safety Watch or similar role
- ✓2 years’ experience within a Chemical storage/manufacturing operations environment
- ✓SAMTRAC or Introduction to SAMTRAC will be advantageous
- ✓KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- ✓Ability to fluently communicate in English
- ✓Must be computer literate in MS Office
- ✓Knowledge of SHEQ systems (ISO45001, ISO14001 & ISO9001)
- ✓Knowledge and application of firefighting practices, methods and procedures
- ✓Knowledge of the storage, handling and the usage of hazardous materials fire prevention practices

About This Role
Job Advert Summary:
• A position for a Safety Watch Charge Hand has become available within the SHEP Department of BTT Richards Bay
• The main purpose of the job is to provide an efficient administrative and technical support function in respect of SHE procedures, standards and safe working practices. To efficiently manage Safety watchers and monitor their daily activities
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Responsible for the efficient daily allocation of Safety Watchers to projects
• Update the resource allocation spread sheets to accurately reflect activities and ensure that these are communicated to all internal stakeholders
• Communicate all IMS documents to the Safety Watchers
• Capture standing time and costings for service providers and Safety Watchers
• Complete the Safety Watch attendance registers
• Ensure that all the relevant inspection checks are carried out by the Safety Watchers
• Conduct toolbox talks and ensure these are signed off and filed for safekeeping
• Ensure that the gas monitoring equipment is within the service and calibration date
• Inspect Safety Watchers PPE and radios
• Fulfil the function of a safety watcher on site if safety watch resources are inadequate
• Inspect and monitor all hazardous work on site
• Monitor all activities related to confined space work under the Occupational Health and Safety Act (GSR 5)
• Respond to unsafe, hazardous or emergency situations
• Conduct gas testing activities, hazard identification and risk assessments
• Operate fire extinguishers, hydrants, fixed monitors and hose carts
