Gauteng Dept of Health Is Hiring an Admin Clerk at Pretoria West Hospital — Grade 12 Can Apply

The Gauteng Department of Health is recruiting an Administration Clerk for Patient Affairs at Pretoria West District Hospital. It is a Level 5 permanent government post paying between R237 453 and R279 708 per annum plus benefits. A Matric certificate is the baseline requirement and previous hospital or patient admin experience will work strongly in your favour.
Patient affairs administration sits at the front line of how a hospital runs. You are the person registering patients, managing their records, capturing data and making sure the administrative side of their care is accurate and compliant. It is structured, responsible work with direct impact on patient experience and hospital operations.
Position Details
What You Will Be Doing
This is a hands-on admin role inside a working hospital. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Registering, admitting, discharging and transferring patients on the SAP-HIS system
- Capturing complete and accurate patient data on both electronic and manual forms
- Classifying patients correctly and following up on outstanding accounts
- Requesting and filing required patient documents during first and return visits
- Booking patients for follow-up appointments
- Compiling and submitting statistics and reports on time
- Safekeeping of patient records in line with the National Archives Act and PAIA
- Ordering stock and relieving in other departments when required
What You Need to Apply
The core requirement is a Matric certificate. Beyond that, a number of things will strengthen your application:
- Grade 12 or equivalent qualification — minimum requirement
- Good MS Office computer skills — essential
- Pretoria residents will be given preference
- 2 to 3 years of patient administration experience is an advantage
- Knowledge of PAAB or HIS systems is an advantage
- More than two official languages is an advantage
- An NQF Level 6 qualification in Public Administration or related field is an advantage
You must also be willing to work shifts including fixed shifts, after hours, night duty, weekends and public holidays. This is a hospital environment and the role requires flexibility.
