  • The Gauteng Department of Health has announced 5 entry-level vacancies for Food Service Aids stationed at Weskoppies Hospital in Pretoria. Operating within the Food Services Directorate, these roles provide critical catering, dietary, and hygiene support across the psychiatric hospital facility.

    Key Job Responsibilities and Operational Duties

    Successful candidates will perform daily operational duties in the hospital's central food service unit and kitchen environments. Key duties include:

    • Food Preparation & Meal Distribution: Assisting in the preparation, portioning, and plating of both normal hospital meals and special therapeutic diets for patients.
  • Provision Handling & Storage: Unpacking and packing food items, ingredients, and provisions into main storerooms, cold rooms, and walk-in freezers.
  • Facility Cleaning & Hygiene: Maintaining hygiene and health safety standards across the catering unit, including regular cleaning of cold rooms, freezers, and dry storage facilities.
  • Equipment Operation: Safely operating large-scale commercial kitchen equipment following health and safety protocols.
  • Shift Flexibility & Relieving: Rotating duties as a reliever within the food services team, working shifts, weekends, and public holidays as rostered.
  • Minimum Job Requirements

    Applicants must satisfy the following baseline selection criteria to be considered:

    • Educational Qualifications: Minimum Grade 10 (Grade 12 / Matric will serve as an added advantage).
  • Experience: Previous exposure or working experience in a hospital food service or large-scale catering environment will be advantageous.
  • Core Skills: Functional numeracy and literacy, good verbal and written communication, and strong teamwork capabilities.
  • Personal Attributes: Reliable, trustworthy, physically capable of performing manual tasks, and understanding of Public Service Batho Pele Principles relative to food service.
  • Availability: Full willingness to work shift duty rosters, including night shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
