Mastering Virtual Interviews: Do’s and Don’ts
Virtual interviews are the new front door to your dream job, and first impressions are now made through a screen before a handshake. Here’s how you can master yours:
✅ Do’s
- Dress appropriately and professionally. Your appearance matters.
- Prepare your device (laptop, tablet or phone) in advance. Ensure the microphone and camera work.
- Ensure you have a stable network, and in case of unexpected power cuts, ensure you have a backup.
- Take your interview in a quiet and well-lit area.
- Make and maintain eye contact with the camera.
❌ Don’ts
- Don’t read from a script. Practice your responses beforehand and ensure they come out naturally.
- Don’t be late. Ensure you join your interview meeting at least 15 minutes earlier.
- Don’t get distracted or interrupted.
- Don’t turn off your camera unless the interviewer says so.
While technology connects you to the opportunity, your personality and preparation will help you secure the job. Be confident, and let them see your best version — even through the screen.
