Mastering Virtual Interviews: Do’s and Don’ts

Mastering Virtual Interviews: Do’s and Don’ts

Virtual interviews are the new front door to your dream job, and first impressions are now made through a screen before a handshake. Here’s how you can master yours:

✅ Do’s

  • Dress appropriately and professionally. Your appearance matters.
  • Prepare your device (laptop, tablet or phone) in advance. Ensure the microphone and camera work.
  • Ensure you have a stable network, and in case of unexpected power cuts, ensure you have a backup.
  • Take your interview in a quiet and well-lit area.
  • Make and maintain eye contact with the camera.
  • ❌ Don’ts

    • Don’t read from a script. Practice your responses beforehand and ensure they come out naturally.
  • Don’t be late. Ensure you join your interview meeting at least 15 minutes earlier.
  • Don’t get distracted or interrupted.
  • Don’t turn off your camera unless the interviewer says so.
  • While technology connects you to the opportunity, your personality and preparation will help you secure the job. Be confident, and let them see your best version — even through the screen.
