Requirements
- Appropriate qualification that allows registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP) as a Social Worker.
- Registration Certificate with SACSSP and current registration to practice for the 2025/2026 financial year.
- Computer literacy and possession of a valid South African driver’s licence.
- Skills and competencies: counselling, communication, planning, organising, problem-solving, time management, stress management, and conflict resolution.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Knowledge and understanding of South African legislation relating to social services.
- Ability to work with individuals from diverse intellectual, cultural, racial, and religious backgrounds.
- Internship or practicum placement in a Health Setting (Hospital or Primary Health Care Facility) will be an added advantage.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Render social work services related to care, support, protection, and development of vulnerable individuals, families, and communities through relevant programmes.
- Address and manage issues that may result in, or arise from, social instability.
- Stay updated with developments in social work and welfare through continuous learning and engagement with professional journals and publications.
- Monitor and understand changes in the social services legal and policy framework.
- Participate in continuous professional development activities as prescribed by SACSSP.
- Perform all required administrative and reporting functions related to the position.
- Be available to work across different hospital units, including the Psychiatric Unit, as per the hospital’s rotation cycle or service needs.
