The Electrical Chargehand is responsible for scheduling, co-ordinating and supervising the electrical maintenance work conducted onsite, ensuring that maintenance work is performed safely, timeously and within budget, This involves managing engineering personnel (electricians) and production equipment. The Electrical Chargehand ensures that machinery is always available and in good condition for production when required. He/she ensures that all company and legal regulations are implemented, and that all required documentation such as PPMs, Work orders, checklists & permits are accurately completed as necessary and recording of daily work on site.
Reporting to:
Maintenance Manager.
Key Job Outputs:
Operate and champion safe working on site
Ensure that site electrical reticulation system (MV, substations, transformers, DBs, UPSs) and production equipment is maintained as per SOPs & PPM schedules.
Implement Company requirements and legal regulations, paying specific attention to HSE legislation (OSH Act) and cGMP
Review maintenance inspections carried out by artisans & electricians to ensure all work is in-line with approved legal requirements (OSH Act) & cGMP.
Manage electricians, this includes issuing of warnings & disciplinary enquiries
Carry out lawful instructions given by Maintenance Manager & Engineering Manager
Facilitate critical spares mapping for production lines and ensure that critical spares are converted into stock items
Conduct and amend safety risk assessments
Deliver toolbox talks/briefings
Ensure that electricians have job relevant training requirements which is entered on site personnel training register.
Lead by example to team
Ensure that maintenance work is completed safety, timeously and within budget
Co-ordinate and supervise the daily activities of engineering team
Share and pass on knowledge to teams through coaching sessions Monitor maintenance work carried out by contractors on site
