About This Role
Pikitup SOC Ltd, on behalf of the City of Johannesburg, is recruiting 400 General Workers to support municipal waste management operations across various depots in Johannesburg for 2026. The successful candidates will be responsible for street cleaning, refuse collection, bin delivery, and general environmental maintenance in residential areas, townships, informal settlements, and high-traffic public spaces.

General Workers play a critical role in maintaining public health, environmental sustainability, and cleanliness throughout the city. The position is physically demanding and requires commitment, teamwork, and adherence to safety and service delivery standards.
Key Responsibilities
Perform daily street cleaning using approved tools and equipment
Sweep streets, pavements, and public areas
Collect refuse bags from households and designated areas
Stack refuse bags neatly at kerbside collection points
Remove litter, debris, and spillages
Assist with cleaning, inspection, delivery, and collection of refuse bins
Record bin serial numbers and obtain customer signatures upon delivery
Wear protective clothing and comply with health and safety regulations
Report injuries, incidents, damaged equipment, and service issues
Interact respectfully with community members and report complaints
Follow instructions from supervisors and work effectively in teams
