Editorial policy
This page explains how articles in the FirstJobly Career Hub are chosen, researched, checked and corrected.
What the Career Hub covers
The Career Hub is for South African job seekers starting out: learnerships, internships, graduate programmes, bursaries, government vacancies and entry-level work. We publish guides on how these programmes work, round-ups of opportunities with close deadlines, and practical advice on CVs, documents, interviews and avoiding scams.
How stories are chosen
We write about an opportunity or topic when an article can add something a job advert does not: who really qualifies, how selection works, what to prepare, important dates, or how to spot fake adverts. A job advert on its own belongs in our job listings, not in the Career Hub.
Sources
We prefer primary sources: employer careers websites, gov.za and department pages, DPSA circulars, NSFAS, SETAs, universities and official programme documents. Important facts such as closing dates, requirements and stipends should link to the official source.
Where only secondary reports exist (for example, before an official advert is posted), the article says so clearly and tells readers to confirm on the official website before applying.
Checking facts
Before publication, names of employers and programmes, dates, requirements, pay and application links are checked against the source. If something cannot be confirmed, we leave it out or label it as unconfirmed.
Use of AI tools
We use AI tools to help with research, first drafts, formatting and editing. AI output is never treated as a source of facts. Articles should be reviewed by a person against the original sources before they are published. Article illustrations may be AI-generated; when they are, the image description says so and they are not presented as real photographs of an employer.
Outdated information
Opportunities close and details change. When an application period ends, the article says that it has closed and points to similar open opportunities. When we change the substance of an article, it shows an “Updated” date. We do not change dates just to make an article look new.
Corrections and reporting errors
If you find a mistake, email info@firstjobly.co.za or use our contact page, with the article link and what is wrong. We check reports against the source and correct confirmed errors.
Articles versus job listings
Career Hub articles are editorial guides. Job listings are adverts for specific vacancies, from employers or collected from official sources. An article may link to a current listing, but the article is not the advert and does not replace the employer’s own instructions.
Paid content
Career Hub articles are not paid for by employers. Promoted job listings and advertisements on the site are separate from our articles. If we ever publish sponsored content, it will be clearly labelled as sponsored.
Who writes the Career Hub
Articles are published under a named author with a public profile. See our About page for who runs FirstJobly. We never charge job seekers to apply for any opportunity, and neither should anyone else.
