Looking for SAPS vacancies for 2026/2027? There are confirmed South African Police Service specialist vacancies with closing dates in late October and early November. However, a specialist vacancy is not the same as an open police-trainee intake—and a new social-media post does not necessarily contain a new job advert.

This guide explains what we could verify, where to find the official application instructions, and what first-time applicants should prepare without relying on unconfirmed recruitment claims.

Is SAPS hiring right now?

Yes, for specific specialist positions checked on 20 October 2026. We could not verify a currently open general police-trainee intake or civilian cleaner, general-worker or ordinary clerk vacancies.

The official SAPS pages separate several types of recruitment:

  • Police Act appointments: specific posts within the police service, including specialist and ranked appointments. These are not automatically entry-level opportunities.
  • Public Service Act appointments: civilian posts. These can include support and administrative work when advertised.
  • Police trainees: a separate recruitment process with its own advert, application window and selection requirements.

At the time of checking, the official civilian vacancies page and police-trainee page both displayed “No post.” The recruitment portal showed errors, so it did not provide reliable confirmation of an open trainee application window.

Check these pages again before applying. This article records the position on its fact-check date, not a promise that the vacancy pages will remain unchanged.

Confirmed SAPS vacancies: October and November 2026

The following vacancies were supported by official SAPS adverts when checked. Read the full PDF before deciding that you qualify: the titles alone do not describe all appointment conditions.

1. Investigative Psychology — Lieutenant Colonel

  • Reference: FS 205/2026
  • Location: Head Office, Pretoria
  • Number of posts: Two
  • Closing: 30 October 2026 at 16:00

This is a specialist appointment involving relevant postgraduate qualifications and experience. It is not a Matric-only or no-experience opportunity.

Read the official FS 205/2026 advert and application instructions.

2. Section Commander — Colonel

  • Reference: FS 200/2026
  • Location: East London, Eastern Cape
  • Closing: 30 October 2026 at 16:00

The advert specifies a master's qualification in Clinical Psychology, HPCSA registration and relevant professional and supervisory experience. Applicants must check the complete requirements in the official document.

Read the official FS 200/2026 advert.

3. Legal Administration Officer Supervisor — Lieutenant Colonel

  • Reference: LS3/2/2026
  • Location: Head Office, Pretoria
  • Closing date: 2 November 2026

The advert specifies a four-year LLB at NQF level 8 alongside the general appointment conditions. A law qualification does not remove the need to meet every other requirement.

Read the official LS3/2/2026 advert.

4. Legal Administration Officer Supervisor — Captain

  • Reference: LS4/2/2026
  • Location: Head Office, Pretoria
  • Closing date: 2 November 2026

This advert also specifies a four-year LLB at NQF level 8. Check the responsibilities, appointment conditions and submission instructions rather than assuming that all legal vacancies have identical requirements.

Read the official LS4/2/2026 advert.

5. Administration Officer Manager — Colonel

  • Reference: LS2/2/2026
  • Location: Head Office, Pretoria
  • Closing date: 2 November 2026

The advert lists relevant diploma or degree fields at NQF level 6 or higher. Despite the word “administration,” this is not an ordinary administration-clerk advert.

Read the official LS2/2/2026 advert.

SAPS police-trainee recruitment 2026/2027: what is confirmed?

Social posts and recruitment websites are circulating claims about a new 2026/2027 trainee intake. We could not authenticate a complete current trainee advert through a readable official SAPS notice on 20 October.

For that reason, this guide does not present the circulating number of places, age limit or application dates as confirmed facts. Do not treat the year “2026/2027” in a headline as proof that applications are open.

Before you submit anything, find an official advert that identifies:

  • The intake or vacancy reference.
  • The opening and closing dates.
  • The age and education requirements for that intake.
  • The approved application method.
  • The selection conditions and supporting documents.

Start at the official SAPS trainee page. If the portal fails, an error message is not proof that applications have closed—or that they have opened. Try again later and use the enquiries details in the official advert when available.

How to apply for a SAPS vacancy correctly

Step 1: Open the exact official advert

Match the job title, location and reference number. An old PDF can remain online after its deadline, so check the closing date inside the document—not the date on a social post sharing it.

Step 2: Check whether you meet every requirement

Qualifications, registration, experience, licence requirements and vetting conditions vary by post. Do not use requirements copied from a previous trainee intake for a new intake.

Step 3: Use the form specified in that advert

Do not automatically use a Z83 for every SAPS job. The Police Act adverts linked above specify a SAPS application form. Follow each advert's own instructions, including document and certification requirements.

For other government jobs that explicitly request a Z83, FirstJobly's Z83 filler can help you prepare it. It does not replace a SAPS form.

Step 4: Prepare your documents and reference number

Keep your CV accurate and easy to read. You can prepare one with the FirstJobly CV Maker, but attach only what the advert requests. Check that your names, contact details and qualifications match your supporting documents.

Step 5: Submit through the stated channel before the deadline

The permitted delivery method and receiving address can differ between adverts. Follow the exact instructions and retain proof of submission where possible. FirstJobly is not SAPS and cannot submit or approve your application on SAPS's behalf.

How to recognise an old advert or recruitment scam

A warning sign is a post that promises jobs but provides no official reference, location or deadline. Be particularly careful if somebody asks for money, requests your email password or OTP, or directs you to send identity documents to a personal WhatsApp number without an official advert supporting that instruction.

Check the actual destination of the application link. Official SAPS adverts are hosted on saps.gov.za and its official subdomains; government vacancy circulars can also appear on dpsa.gov.za. A genuine-looking logo or screenshot is not enough.

We found newly circulated cleaner information pointing to an early-2026 circular, while other general-worker and clerk adverts carried July deadlines. Those links did not establish a new October application window.

Only have Matric or looking for your first job?

Do not spend time applying for a specialist role whose qualifications you do not hold. While waiting for a verified SAPS entry-level advert, check entry-level jobs and government vacancies on FirstJobly.

Open the individual listing and employer advert before applying. An advertised job and a general “register your CV” page are not the same thing.

The bottom line

Confirmed SAPS specialist vacancies are open, but an entry-level or trainee application window was not verified on 20 October 2026. Use the official vacancy pages, check the exact reference and deadline, and never pay somebody to secure a place.

Source note: This guide is based on the official SAPS vacancy pages and the individual adverts linked above. Recruitment information can change. The original employer advert takes precedence over this guide. The article is independent of SAPS.
