What Sasol is offering

Sasol has opened applications for a Learner Electro-Mechanic (Millwright) apprenticeship at its Secunda and Sasolburg mining operations (Job Req ID 13435). As an apprentice you train towards becoming a qualified Millwright under the requirements of the relevant SETA (QCTO) and the National Artisan Moderation Board (NAMB).

Applications close on 6 November 2026.

A millwright works on both the electrical and the mechanical side of machines, which is why the trade is also called electro-mechanic. In mining that means keeping motors, conveyors, pumps and underground production equipment running safely.

Who can apply

You qualify with one of the following:

  • A completed Grade 12 National Senior Certificate (6 subjects) with at least 40% in Mathematics or Technical Mathematics, English, and Physical Science or Technical Science
  • A completed N3 certificate (6 subjects) with at least 40% in Mathematics, Engineering Science and Business English/Communications

Sasol also looks for these personal attributes: good communication, computer literacy, being proactive and self-motivated, working well in a team and a willingness to learn.

Note that Mathematical Literacy is not listed. If you took Maths Lit instead of Maths, check the advert carefully before applying.

What the training covers

According to the advert, training includes:

  • Electrical equipment
  • Mechanical equipment
  • Maintenance of underground production equipment
  • Safety prerequisites for equipment
  • Good housekeeping

How selection works

Shortlisted applicants go through:

1. A psychometric assessment 2. A medical and fitness assessment 3. Security clearance 4. Qualification verification

Because this work happens at mining operations, the medical and fitness step matters. Sasol states that false information or invalid documents make an application null and void. If Sasol has not contacted you within 60 days of the closing date, regard your application as unsuccessful.

Documents to have ready

  • Certified copy of your ID
  • Your matric or N3 certificate and results
  • An up-to-date CV

If you do not have a CV yet, you can build an ATS-friendly one for free with the FirstJobly CV Maker.

Tips before you apply

  • Check your marks first. The 40% minimum applies to each listed subject, not your average.
  • Show practical interest. Mention any technical subjects, school workshop projects, fixing things at home or helping at a garage or farm.
  • Keep your phone on. Assessment invites often come by SMS or email at short notice.
  • Be ready to relocate. Training is at Secunda and Sasolburg Mining.

Scam warning

Sasol says it will never ask for a cash deposit or payment during recruitment. Apply only through Sasol's official careers site. Anyone asking for money to "secure a place" is a scammer. Report suspected fraud to recruitmentfraud@sasol.com.
